About
Queen of Almonds makes the #1 Spanish Rum liqueur with a blend of aged Spanish rum and real Marcona almond paste (Marzipan), this one of a kind 40% Vol. 80% proof rum liqueur is the perfect cocktail partner or straight up in small sips. You can also make our famous “MRC” Marzipan-Rum-Coffee at home by replacing Irish whisky with Marzipan Rum Liqueur and then add freshly brewed coffee, whipped-cream plus a dash of cinnamon on top – a real flavor bomb in your mouth.
Our Marzipan Rum is a 100% rum based liqueur and therefore we use MarzipanRum.com to market this product. Marcona is the sweetest of all almonds. So we do not use sugar but only organic Andalusian orange blossom honey in our Queen of Almonds ® Spanish marzipan almond paste. Therefore organic honey is the only “sugar” which is transferred to our Marzipan Rum during production. Our signature trademark for this amazing liqueur is to add one whole almond as stated on our label “THE ONE WITH THE MARCONA ALMOND IN THE BOTTLE” ™
History
Many thinks sugar cane and rum comes from the Caribbean, but Spain arguably plays a crucial role in the history of rum since it was Christopher Columbus who brought the sugar cane plants from Spain to the “New World” in particular Hispaniola on his second voyage in 1493.
However it was the Muslims who brought the sugar plants from Egypt to Spain, more precisely “Al-Andalus”. It was the Moors who created the Andalusian civilization and made it an important sugar production area in the beginning of the tenth century. Spanish sugar was expensive in these days and sold at the same price as spices from Asia in Northern Europe. When Spain finally won back Granada from the Arabs in 1492, the first distillate of sugar cane became known as Aguadiente de Caña and the first official record of a serious Spanish rum dates back almost 200 years to 1828 when a Motrillian rum won first prize at the Spanish Industry Exhibition in Madrid. The city of Motril, situated along the Mediterranean coast, was the “Sugar Capital” of Europe for over 800 years and here you can visit the Pre-industrial Sugar Museum where the entire history with Cane Palace, Milling area, Press room and Refining rooms are set up for display.
Today Spain has changed from sugar cane to almond cultivation and is the world’s second biggest almond producer. The world’s finest and sweetest Marcona almonds comes from here – also known as the Queen of Almonds. We make our Queen of Almonds ® Spanish Marzipan and almond paste right here in Andalusia. NB! Using real marzipan and a Marcona almond in our rum liqueur can give small settlements in the bottom of the bottle. This is perfectly natural for an artisanal product and do not influence the flavor in a negative way, in the contrary it adds to the refined taste of our MarzipanRum.com
